HEAD

SoilSouls are the importers and distributors of the Soilsouls WormBox. The distinguishing feature of the SoilSouls WormBox is the roof which allows ample ventilation (through natural convection) and is more weather resistant. It also sells with 4 trays, not the usual 3, as a basic start-up.

SoilSouls want to make a difference: we want people to experience the smell of fresh compost!   The smell of the first raindrops on a hot summer’s day.   We want people to get the thrill and addiction of recycling.  We want families to take on projects.   We want people to feel self-sustainable to some extent.  We want people to appreciate the first green leaf.   We want people to realise every bit helps.....we want to make it affordable but clean….

So, why do we throw our kitchen waste into the garbage bin and it ends up in landfills?

So, why do we pay garden services to haul away loads of garden-waste?

So, why do we spend so much on buying compost?

Throw it onto a compost heap!   Even faster and stronger: throw it into a wormbox! Make it work for you and not only save time and money but you can be certain that your compost is organic! Put back into your garden exactly what it needs.

Earthworms make gold from garbage - in every sense!   These neat and sturdy units are filled with earthworms and they work very hard to convert your household waste to compost.  And you do not have to walk to the compost-heap in the corner of the garden once a day.

There are so many wonderful things we can learn from nature and the rain forests: to mulch with your garden’s own dead leaves and grass clippings, to plant a variety of size and type of vegetables to complement each other, not to plough or spit the healthy soil before planting, etc. We also learn to appreciate the role of every living creature…..like the earthworm OF COURSE!

Unfortunately modern chemical fertilisers and various poisons have affected the earthworm population and reduced the amount and quality of topsoil.   Out earth can no longer absorb water as it is next to "solid and dead".   Water and topsoil flow directly to the oceans.   Our water supply depletes and so does the quality of our soils….and our food…

But earthworms can do wonders for the garden:  they eat plant leftovers and even manure, turning it into nutrient rich soil, they aerate the soil, create a balanced pH environment and their castings are an excellent fertilizer.  Earthworms encapsulate any poisons and pathogens (even nuclear waste) so that plants cannot absorb it.   The castings encourage growth;   it boosts the plant’s immunity and it is less resistant to attacks by pests.  Fruit and vegetables grown in vermicompost have a much higher nutritional value and soil is in a much better condition. This leads to healthier and tastier vegetables, disease resistant plants and bloomin’ beautiful flowers!  They clean up our mess and give you black liquid gold in return!

Helpful Soilsouls Recycling Hint:
If you are a keen recycler / composter – try making use of this ancient but effective method to do compost heaps:“trenches”. All you do is to dig a trench about 50cm by any length. Now add all your compost directly into the trench and layer it every 5cm or so with normal soil or other compost. When it is almost full cover it with about 5cm soil and a layer of plastic. You may take off the plastic once it has settled or add even more soil/compost to gain height. In the meantime you should start a new trench. And after about 3 to 4 months (depending on the season) you can plant directly into your trench. You can even plant through the plastic – it reduces the weed problem, maintains moisture and reduces the risk of frost
